Football
In football-only conferences the FRCC has an 8-team North Division and an 8-team South Division. Appleton West (North) and Oshkosh North (South) were added to the FRCC in 2024 to make each Division an 8-team conference. Previously the North and South consisted of 7 teams and they would play a crossover game to fill out their conference schedules.
In the North, West De Pere finally broke through for their first ever FRCC Championship after finishing as the runner-up to Bay Port the previous two seasons. The Phantoms downed the Pirates with a field goal as time expired in their meeting this season. The Phantoms finished 7-0 in the conference. West De Pere will become a full member of the FRCC in 2025. In the South, Notre Dame Academy repeated as the Conference Champion, also with an undefeated 7-0 record.
(West De Pere)
The Conference qualified nine teams across three divisions for the football play-off field. Ashwaubenon, Bay Port, De Pere, Pulaski, and West De Pere from the North and Menasha, Notre Dame, Oshkosh North and Sheboygan North from the South.
Sheboygan North, making only their 7th play-off appearance since the WIAA added it to the program in 1976 notched their first ever play-off win by defeating Milwaukee Reagan 42-8 in the first round. The Golden Raiders would lose to FRCC North foe Bay Port in the second round.
Bay Port (D1), West De Pere (D2) and Notre Dame Academy (D3) all made it to the semi-final round with a chance to play in the State Championships held at Camp Randall in Madison. Bay Port defeated DC Everest 34-27 and Notre Dame defeated La Crosse Logan 41-21 to claim their spots in the state championship games. West De Pere was stymied by Rice Lake 31-24 falling one game short of the championship game.
Bay Port, playing in their second Championship game in their history (2019) won their first ever State Title in Football beating Muskego 25-18. Coincidentally, it was Muskego who defeated Bay Port in their only other State Championship appearance in 2019. The Pirates came out of the gate hot, scoring on the first play from scrimmage on an 80 yard run by Brady Moon. This set the tone as the Pirates dominated the first half outgaining Muskego 259-20. Moon finished with 241 yards on 24 carries bolstered by an offensive line that opened huge holes for the junior running back all day long. Moon also had a 67 yard TD run in the third quarter giving the Pirates a big enough margin to hold on for the win. Congratulations to Coach Steven Jorgensen and the Bay Port Pirates.
Notre Dame Academy made their 3rd trip to the State Championship game as a member of the FRCC. Their 49-28 win over Catholic Memorial was their second State Title as a member of the FRCC. Notre Dame also has a State Championship and runner-up finish as a member of the Fox River Valley Conference before the formation of the FRCC. The Tritons won the title in 2015 and they were the runner-up in 2016. Oddly enough the 2015 and 2016 games were also against Catholic Memorial.
Notre Dame jumped on Catholic Memorial early getting out to a 21-7 lead in the first quarter. Catholic Memorial was able to make it a one possession game on a couple of occasions, but each time the Tritons responded to take control of the game. The early lead came compliments of a stellar run game by the Tritons and a pick 6 by cornerback Cayden Kiefert. Christian Collins rushed for 408 yards on 39 carries, a WIAA record across all Divisions. Collins also set other records: D3 state title game record of 5 TDs which also tied the overall record for all divisions and his 39 carries set a D3 record. Collins also rushed for 3084 yards this season becoming only the second player in state history to rush for over 3000 yards.
Congratulations to coach Michael Rader and the Notre Dame Tritons.
Notes:
- Alex Warden (12) and Jack Warden (11) both won State Championships as brothers, what is unusual is Alex plays for Bay Port while Jack plays for Notre Dame Academy.
- Notre Dame rushed for 6 touchdowns in the state championship game with Christian Collins accounting for 5 of them while twin brother Jack had the other.
