The WIAA State Girls Tennis Individual Championship Tournament will take place this week Thursday through Saturday.
WIAA State Girls Individual Tennis Tournament Preview
The FRCC is well represented with four singles players and six doubles teams competing in the Individual Championship Tournament. Competing for Notre Dame in the tournament are Lucy Lawton (12) and Mia Miller (12) in single play. In doubles competition Natalia Welle (12) and Vivian Bigari (10) will partner as will Sophie Lin (12) and Mary Sullivan (12). Welle and Bigari received a 6-seed in the bracket. Jordin Popp (11) of Manitowoc Lincoln will compete in singles play as will the team of Taylor Peterson (12) and Zylia Kleinfeldt (12) in doubles. For Bay Port it is the double teams of Khali Stephens (12) and Alexia Stephens (9) and the team of Mira Matusczewski (10) and Rheya Gala (9). The Stephens sisters picked up the 3-seed in the bracket. Lillianna Graf (10) singles and Ana Cristescu (11)/Maria Cristescu (9) doubles from De Pere round out the FRCC representatives. The Cristescu sisters are the 4-seed.
Other notes: Khali Stephens (BP) competed in the state singles bracket the last 2 years. Ana Cristescu (DP) finished third in doubles the previous two years with different partners each year. Vivian Bigari (NDA) qualified for the singles tournament in 2023. Lucy Lawton (NDA) and Jordin Popp (Man) both were eliminated in the first round of the 2023 tournament. Lillianna Graf (DP) took home third in 2023 as a doubles partner of Ana Cristescu (DP). Mira Matusczewski (BP) also competed in doubles in 2023 with a different partner. The double team of Taylor Peterson/Zylia Kleinfeldt (Man) eliminated the doubles team of Sophie Lin/Mary Sullivan (NDA) in the first round in 2023. Defending State Singles Champion Karlie Schock (10) Bay Port received the 1-seed in this year’s tournament but opted not to play.
