WIAA Boys Basketball Tournament Begins

The WIAA Boys Basketball tournament gets underway today with three FRCC Teams in action. In Division 1 De Pere received a top seed in their Sectional grouping while Sheboygan North earned the 5-seed. In Division 2 Notre Dame Academy garnered the top seed and Ashwaubenon followed up with a 2-seed. Winners of today’s games will move on to play on Friday in the Regional Semi-finals. Higher seeded teams will hosts games played at the Regional level. Sites for Sectional play are pre-determined.

Tuesday, March 4

  • #16 Manitowoc – 54 hosts #17 Oshkosh West – 30 (winner will play #1 De Pere)
  • #18 Sheboygan South – 82 travels to #15 Hartford – 78(winner will play #2 Homestead)

Division 2

  • #9 Green By Southwest – 53 travels to #8 Luxemburg-Casco – 57 (winner will play #1 Notre Dame)
  • #6 Pulaski – 79 hosts #11 Green Bay East – 40 (winner will play #3 West De Pere)

Friday, March 7 (Regional Semi-finals)

Division 1

  • #1 De Pere hosts Manitowoc
  • #5 Sheboygan North hosts #12 Hamilton
  • #13 Green Bay Preble travels to #4 Pewaukee
  • #10 Bay Port travels to #7 Oshkosh North
  • #18 Sheboygan South travels to #2 Homestead

Division 2

  • #1 Notre Dame Academy hosts #8 Luxemburg-Casco
  • #2 Ashwaubenon hosts #7 Green Bay West
  • #6 Pulaski travels to #3 West De Pere

Boys Hockey

Notre Dame Academy continues their quest for a third straight WIAA Division 1 Hockey State Championship. The Tritons are the #3 seed in the 4 team bracket of the state tournament and are playing their best hockey of the season right now. As a 3-seed in their sectional grouping, Notre Dame came away with a victory on the road against 2-seed St. Mary’s Springs in the sectional semi-final and then upended top seed Neenah in the sectional final to earn their spot in the State Tournament.

Notre Dame will face Wausau West in the semi-final round of the tournament with the winner to face Brookfield East or Edgewood. The game will take place on Friday, March 7 at 2:00pm at Bob Suter’s Legacy20 Arena in Middleton.

Wrestling

Bay Port will compete in the boys Division 1 State Team Wrestling Tournament this weekend at the Fieldhouse in Madison. The Pirates are the 3-seed in the eight team field and will face #6 Reedsburg in a quarterfinal match-up. Quarterfinals for the State Meet will begin at 5:30pm with semi-finals starting at 7:30pm also on Friday. Should the Pirates win their quarterfinal match-up they would face either Arrowhead or Waukesha West. Finals are scheduled for Saturday.

Congratulations to the Wrestlers who made the podium at the Individual State Tournament this past weekend. The FRCC had one State Champion, four runner-up finishes, a third place finish and six additional podium finishes. Brooke Corrigan (De Pere) won her third state title to go along with a runner-up finish in her high school career.
