February 14, 2025
Wrestling Regionals and Boys Swimming and Diving Sectionals begin Friday. Girls Wrestling regionals will be held on Friday with the boys regionals scheduled for Saturday. In boys swimming, the diving competition will be held on Friday, while the swimming portion will take place on Saturday.
Girls Wrestling
The 2024-25 season marks the first year that girls wrestling gets its stand alone regional and sectional competition separate from the boys. The first ever girls wrestling regionals will be held on Friday, February 14. FRCC girls wrestling teams are split between three different regionals. Ashwaubenon, Bay Port, Green Bay Preble and Pulaski will compete at the Peshtigo Regional. De Pere and Manitowoc will be at the Wrightstown Regional, while Sheboygan North and Sheboygan South will be in Cedar Grove-Belgium.
Sectional Competition will be held Friday, February 21. Peshtigo regional qualifiers would move on to the Shawano Sectional while the Wrightstown and Cedar Grove-Belgium qualifiers would move on to the Menasha Sectional. Just like the boys, in order for the girls to qualify for the sectional tournament, they must finish in the top four at the regional. The difference between the girls and boys competition is that all girls compete in one division while the boys compete in three divisions.
The girls individual state tournament is held in conjunction with the boys and is held at the Kohl Center on February 27, 28 and March 1. To qualify for the State tournament, the girls have to finish in the top 2 at the Sectional Meet.
Harlow Skenandore of Pulaski and Emjay Neumann of Manitowoc are hoping to return to the State Meet and defend the titles that they won last year. Both will be defending their titles in the same weight classes that they competed in last year. Neumann in the 120 lb weight class and Skenandore in the 145 lb weight class. Skenandore brings a 19-0 record into the tournament series while Newmann sports a 33-2 record. Dakota Athey – Bay Port – is also looking for a return trip to the state tournament. Athey reached the podium last year finishing 3rd in the 114 lb weight class. It is expected that she will compete at 120 this year. Lastly, Brooke Corrigan of De Pere finished 2nd in last year’s state tournament (she was a State Champion in the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons) in the 100 lb weight class, but she has yet to compete this season because of injury. It is hoped that she will be able to give it a go in the tournament.

Boys Wrestling
The FRCC teams that sponsor wrestling all compete in Division 1. Boys Division 1 regionals will take place on Saturday, February 15. Ashwaubenon, Bay Port, De Pere and Pulaski will compete at the Green Bay Preble Regional. Manitowoc, Sheboygan North and Sheboygan South will be at Port Washington. While girls only have an individual state tournament at this time, the boys have both an individual state meet and a team state meet. Like the girls, in Division 1, the top 4 finishers in the regional qualify for the sectional meet and the top two finishers at the sectional meet qualify for the state meet. In addition, the regional champions and the regional runner ups in the boys divisions also qualify for the team sectionals and a chance to qualify for team state.
The boys individual sectional meet will be held at Fond du Lac on Saturday, February 22 and all FRCC schools would funnel to that sectional. Bay Port will host the team sectional on Tuesday, February 18 which will bring together the regional winners and the runner ups from the Green Bay Preble and Port Washington regionals. Bay Port is the 2024-25 FRCC Champion (three-peat). The Pirates fell to eventual State Champion Kaukauna in last year’s Team Sectional final. Team State competition takes place March 7 & 8 at the Fieldhouse in Madison.
Three FRCC wrestlers who finished on the podium in last year’s individual state meet are hoping to again qualify for this year’s meet. Owen Wathke – Bay Port – defeated Mycah Beckett – De Pere in the 3rd place match at 113. Wathke will most likely compete in the 120 lb weight class this year while Beckett will likely move up to 132. Alois Schlumpf – Bay Port – finished 4th last year at 120 and will likely compete at 126 this year. Wathke surpassed the 150 wins mark this season while Schlumpf went over the 100 wins mark.
